A CAMPAIGN calling on all manufacturers to include carbon dioxide emission figures alongside vehicle list prices in all publicity and on dealer fleet invoices has been launched by FNN sister title Fleet News. It also wants contract hire and leasing companies to ensure that cars' CO2 performance is included with list prices on all paperwork supplied to fleets.

With the Government committed to introducing a new company car tax system in April 2002 based on a percentage of list price graduated according to carbon dioxide emissions, it is critical for fleet managers and company car drivers to know the CO2 performance of all vehicles on choice lists. And with most companies operating replacement cycles of a minimum of three years, it means that vehicles chosen today will be taxed under both the present and the proposed new systems.

The Fleet News campaign has had an immediate welcome from the Association of Car Fleet Operators, British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association, consultancy Fleet Audits and manufacturer Vauxhall, who won the Environmental Supplier of the Year Award at the 1999 Fleet News Awards.

Stewart Whyte, managing director of Fleet Audits, has already written to 15 leading manufacturers about the importance of CO2 data and has been surprised at the lack of awareness. 'Many seem to be waiting for a lead - and this initiative is to be welcomed as the lead the industry needs.'
