SUSSEX Police is trialling 22 Toyota Avensis 1.6S four-door saloons with a view to potentially adding more of the vehicles to its 720-strong fleet, most of which is made up of Peugeot cars. The force is carrying out a six-month evaluation and ,if this proves successful, fleet manager Jeff Fox says more Toyotas could join the fleet.

The Lewes-based fleet manager said: 'We can find out more about a car in six months than most fleets can in four years. We run a lot of Peugeot 306 and 406 models and it is only right that we try something else. The Avensis competes favourably with other makes on replacement parts and on service and warranty conditions.'
