Car fees help DVLA make profit

THE £25 new vehicle registration fee helped the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency's total income (excluding Vehicle Excise Duty) exceed the cost of running the agency for the first time in 1998/99.

The DVLA collected £5.1 billion in VED, raised £73 million from VED enforcement, and earned £47.1 million from the sale of cherished number plates.
