THE Vauxhall Cavalier - the vehicle which put Vauxhall on the fleet map and challenged the dominance of Ford - was voted used car of the last decade of the millennium by a panel of judges from CAP Motor Research. It held off the challenge of both the Ford Fiesta (best small car) and BMW 3-series (best executive car).

Best small family car of the decade from 1990-99 was the Volkswagen Golf, best sports car was the Mazda MX-5, best 4x4 the Mitsubishi Shogun and the Toyota Yaris was voted the best new car likely to have an impact on the used car market early in the new millennium ahead of the Ford Focus and Mercedes-Benz A-class.
