GDI engine gets greater economy

MITSUBISHI has squeezed 10% more fuel economy out of its GDI direct injection petrol engine and is set to launch revised 1.6-litre and 1.8-litre units in its Lancer range in Japan.

The new GDIs will come with advanced continuously variable transmission (CVT) with the option of manual shift over-ride. No plans have been laid for a UK launch, but a spokesman for importer Colt Car Co said: 'Don't rule it out.'
