FLEET management is gaining acceptance as a board level responsibility, the Lex survey in association with Fleet News has revealed. Figures showing where responsibility for fleet policy rests revealed that in 35% of cases it was with the managing director or owner of the business, while a dedicated fleet manager was used in 16% of cases.

The finance director or a member of the board takes charge in 14% of companies, while another manager or director is listed in a further 10% of cases. Personnel directors are in charge of fleet policy in 4% of firms questioned.

In fleets of 75 vehicles or more, 24% of firms used a dedicated fleet manager, but 18% made fleet policy a decision of the board, 7% said it was the managing director or owner's responsibility, 12% said another manager or director and 7% said the personnel director.
