WESTMINSTER City Council is claiming it has the world's first CCTV 'supervan' which is taking to the streets as a high tech weapon in the ongoing war against crime.

The £130,000 crime-busting initiative sees the Volkswagen LT35 kitted out with nine hi-tech CCTV and a retractable mast, which pan streets throughout the whole of Westminster.

The introduction of the robovan is the city council fleet's second world first. Last year it spent £33,000 on a hydrogen powered fuel cell parks van, which was fitted with a fuel cell by specialist firm Zero Emission Fuel Company (ZEVCO). A second hydrogen-powered van is expected by the end of the year.
