Pedal power beats plodding for police

STRATHCLYDE Police proves fleet drivers can use two wheels instead of four on essential journeys.

Its 124-bicycle fleet promises quicker response times than officers on foot or driving in traffic. The fleet is also cheaper to run - 15 officers from the bike patrol can be deployed for the same cost as supplying and equipping one patrol car.
