FORD has launched a new telematics pack for Focus and Mondeo models to offer company car drivers services ranging from traffic information to directions to the nearest garage.

Ford Telematics has been developed with Vodafone and offers a remote operator service, traffic information, emergency roadside assistance and a voice-activated cellular phone for £600, integrated into each vehicle's audio unit.

To activate the system, drivers press a menu button on the radio and then push the appropriate button on the service display. Services are then charged by the minute, with telephone calls charged according to the customer's chosen Vodafone price plan.

An emergency 'SOS' button connects the driver to the emergency services operator, while airbag deployment as a result of an accident will automatically alert the operator.

The operator 'i' button connects to a remote operator for advice on places of interest or useful destinations like hotels or filling stations.

Using the traffic 'T' button connects to 'real time' local traffic information, delivered by voice so drivers can keep their eyes on the road.
