Registration fee rakes in cash

THE controversial £25 vehicle first registration fee has raised more than £205 million for Government coffers since it was introduced in 1998.

MPs heard the system raised £67.65 million in 1998, rising to £68.57 million in 1999 and increasing again to £70.5 million last year.
