VW names new luxury car after son of Greek god

VOLKSWAGEN has named its new luxury car - codenamed project D1 - Phaeton, and will debut it at the Geneva Motor Show in Spring 2002.

Phaeton in Greek mythology was the son of the god Apollo and a human mother who was accused of not being a true god.

Volkswagen will be hoping for better luck when it goes up against the S-class and 7-series.
