THE Comet Driver of the Year is John Christopher from the high street retailer's Chester division. The event, now in its 10th year, presented drivers with a series of challenges, which led to individual and group awards.

Among the board members throwing their backing behind the event were Jim Spittle, supply chain director for Kingfisher, owner of Comet, Woolworths and B&Q and Rob Cissell, managing director of Comet. Ian Markham, transport controller for the firm, which has a fleet of 1,700 vehicles, said: 'The impact of the driver of the year awards has significantly improved our claims and costs.'
