THERE are no plans to reduce the number of RAC recovery vehicles and Auto Windscreen repair vans following the recent link between the two businesses, according to the RAC. Lex Service, which owns the RAC, bought Auto Windscreens for £112million at the end of March.

Gary Spellins, managing director of RAC Business Services, told Fleet NewsNet: 'For the time being the only action that will be taken is the re-branding of the business to RAC Auto Windscreens. Metal and glass don't mix terribly well and we wouldn't automatically assume that we could swap one for the other.

'The fitting and repair of glass is a very specialised activity as is recovering broken-down vehicles. We will have to see over time how we bring these together.'
