CITROEN has announced prices for its new C5 range, with its entry-level model undercutting the equivalent Ford Mondeo by £15 and matching the Renault Laguna. The list price of the entry-level C5 1.8 LX is £14,580 - the same as a Laguna 1.8 Authentique and £15 less than a Mondeo 1.8 LX.

The competitive pricing is reflected across the range with a C5 2.0 Exclusive SE automatic listed at £21,395 - £1,000 more than a standard Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X automatic, but to equip the Mondeo to the same level it would cost £22,145, £750 more than the C5, according to Citroen. The least expensive diesel is the 2.0 HDi LX, listed at £16,050, compared with the Mondeo 2.0 TDDi at £16,070, and the Laguna 1.9dCi also at £16,050.

The French manufacturer will also be offering a 2.0-litre direct injection petrol variant, the HPi, when the car goes on sale on April 7, with lower CO2 emissions and better performance and fuel consumption than the standard 2.0-litre. Automatic is available across most of the range priced at £1,000 more than the manual.
