STAFF at the 6,500-car Ministry of Defence are using the internet to book in vehicles for servicing work.

Having outsourced its white fleet to Lex Vehicle Leasing, the MoD is now using an online version of Lex One-Call to arrange collection of a car for servicing or repairs.

Lex Defence white fleet staff use the facility to schedule standard servicing visits and agree dates with individual MoD bases.

The vehicle scheduler - the Lex Defence White Fleet area office - is prompted by a system-generated report, which identifies when a vehicle is due to be serviced. The scheduler will then contact the operating base and agree a date for the vehicle to be collected and serviced.

Wendy Roberts, Lex MoD fleet services manager, said: 'An extranet facility has been specifically designed to meet the bespoke requirements of the MoD. Take-up has been fantastic - we get up to 60 requests a day.'
