THE failed Edinburgh City Car Club, which collapsed at the end of March last year, has been resurrected. Car club operator Smart Moves is raising the scheme from the ashes with 10 cars and is aiming to attract 120 members to make the scheme financially viable.

Edinburgh City Council will be involved in marketing and promoting the scheme and will reactivate some of the dedicated on-street car stations.

The Community Car Share Network will be involved though its specialist insurance cover and vehicles from a sponsorship arrangement with Vauxhall.

Other car clubs operate throughout the UK such as the Avis-run scheme in Oxford. The firm is also planning to launch two schemes in the London boroughs of Southwark and Sutton.
