CHAUFFEUR car hire company Movements Unlimited has cut its fuel bill by 10% after fitting black box technology to four cars in its fleet. The Loughborough firm fitted Trip Log technology from local company ICS Blackbox to three Vauxhall Omegas and a Ford Scorpio in a bid to cut fuel consumption and assess driver standards, even though all its drivers are Institute of Advanced Motorist-trained.

Owner and manager Bill Cregreen said: 'It's been marvellous. We have been able to monitor fuel and driving, which also means we can look at the service we give to the end user. In the past we have had the odd rogue chauffeur who thought he could perhaps leave later to get to a pick-up, but with the technology they can't do that.'

Trip Log records date, time, distances, start/stop and working times, acceleration, deceleration, speeding and engine idling. The data is recorded onto a memory plug, which can be downloaded on to a PC.
