CONSTRUCTION service company SGB has decided to move away from handling the maintenance of its 800-strong car fleet through its own in-house workshops and switched its fleet to contract hire with maintenance.

The company, best known for its scaffolding products, has appointed CitiCapital Fleet as its new contract hire and maintenance supplier in an arrangement that will see the replacement of 240 cars and car-derived vans this year alone. Previously, SGB ran its fleet on operating leases – like contract hire but without maintenance.

SGB group services director Andrew MacGadie said: 'We had dedicated staff looking after all our cars and commercial vehicles, but it was a diversion from the core business.

'We have retained our transport management office but already we have seen significant cost savings and the fleet is no longer a burden.'
