A MASSIVE repair operation is being put into place, in a bid to help fleet managers facing one of the worst storms to hit the UK in 15 years.

Autoglass says fleets are struggling to cope with record levels of vehicle glass damage and increased downtime as a result of the severe gales and it has responded by moving expert fitter squads and mobile service vehicles into the worst-hit areas to help cope with the sudden increase in demand.

Support teams have been drafted in to answer phones in the customer contact centre, which has been 'inundated' with calls from fleet drivers whose vehicle glass has been damaged in the devastating storms.

Ian Carlisle, managing director of Autoglass, said: 'We're facing the worst storm since the devastating hurricane of 1987 and our phones are ringing non-stop with calls from desperate fleet drivers. 'But our 24/7, 1,100 strong mobile service means that we can react quickly, get fitters out where they are needed and help our fleet customers get back on the road.'
