FLEET industry professionals who have completed training to improve the skills they need to work with company cars and vans have been recognised by the Institute of Car Fleet Management (ICFM).

Fifteen students received awards at the ICFM's 10th annual conference, called 'Ten Years Gone – Ten Years On' held at The Peugeot Conference Centre in Ryton, where the first event was held a decade ago.

Eight people received the introductory certificate, seven of them from British Car Auctions, while three were handed the certificate in car fleet management and three received a diploma.

Martin Brain, of Kingston Communications, was given a fellowship, awarded to diploma holders who also have five years' experience in strategic car fleet management and have shown a contribution to the professionalism of the industry.

Michael Thomson, of Fife Constabulary, who received a diploma, was also named training achiever of the year for his determination to obtain professional qualifications, to the extent of paying for courses himself.

Tom Madden, chairman of the ICFM, said: 'The fleet decision-maker's job is changing and the ICFM is an important link, which can help with training and provide support.'
