VOLKSWAGEN has announced the first long-range test drive of its hydrogen fuel cell Bora, which ran between Switzerland and Italy alongside a clean diesel called SunFuel.

Both were tested in the depths of winter with the fuel cell developed by Volkswagen and the Paul Scherrer Institute, in Zurich, containing capacitors that can store electrical energy.

Its companion vehicle, a Bora TDI, was powered by SunFuel which uses fuel from renewable sources such as plants, waste products and other raw materials.
