MG Rover launches new vans

MG Rover it is to enter the commercial vehicle market with an all-new van adapted from the 25 platform, including a model it claims will be the fastest on the market.

The firm says the move is part of its strategy to open up niche markets with new and exciting products. As a result it is to sell two models, a Rover CDV derived from the 25 and an MG Express, derived from the MG ZR.

Guy Pigounakis, UK commercial director, MG Rover Group, said: 'The announcement of the Rover CDV and MG Express answers the demands of individuals and small businesses who desire versatile products that are economic and have distinctive style. The MG Express and Rover CDV are class-leading vehicles.'

The company claims the MG Express will be the fastest van on the market, particularly in 160 guise, using a 158bhp 1.8-litre engine. Both vans also are also available with a 100bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel. The petrol Rover CDV comes with an 83bhp 1.4- litre while the MG Express starts with a 102bhp 1.4-litre unit. Prices start at £8,995 OTR.

Pigounakis continued: 'I'm sure a great number of small businesses are going to get very excited about these new car-derived vans, which are yet another example of MG Rover's ability to bring innovative products to the market and introduce new desirability into an established market sector.'

Both vehicles have a lined rear loadspace, partial steel bulkhead and lashing points. Approved LPG conversions are available.
