A NEW driving at work policy guide aimed at fleets has been launched to help employers meet their duty of care to staff.

The guidance is intended to provide a template for employers which can be adapted for their own needs. Employers must ensure they have senior management commitment to the health and safety policy, but drivers should also commit to understanding the fleet safety policy to do their bit to reduce accidents.

The Draft Driving at Work Policy and Management Guide has been published in association with law firm Kennedys. Issues covered include risk assessment, safety control, drug and alcohol policy, vehicle selection, inspection, testing and maintenance, use of mobile phones, private vehicles, hired vehicles and record keeping.
