FORD will unveil a new 1.8-litre direct injection petrol engine in a revised version of the Mondeo (pictured) due on sale this summer, offering the lowest CO2 emissions for a volume 1.8-litre upper-medium car.

Subtle cosmetic enhancements to the car hide an array of changes and updates under the skin, including wider availability of a six-speed manual transmission, a push-button change facility on the automatic transmission and touch-screen DVD navigation options, automatic headlamps and windscreen wipers and new Sony audio systems.

It also includes a sector-first 'climate seat' option, combining heating with ventilation, as well as a heated rear seat for the first time.
