Diesel upgrade for facelifted Alfa 156

ALFA Romeo's revised 156 saloon and Sportwagon is now on sale in the UK with two upgraded common rail diesels.

The range is priced from £14,650 to £21,410 on-the-road, and features two new diesels – a 140bhp 1.9 JTD Multijet and a 175bhp 2.4 JTD Multijet.

The 2.5-litre V6 has been dropped from the UK line-up, while entry-level 1.6 Twin Spark and 115bhp 1.9 JTD will fit into the range below the Turismo specification versions.

Entry models have a CD player, air conditioning, six airbags, electric front windows, traction control and electronic stability control. The new 1.9 JTD Multijet saloon offers 47.8mpg on the combined cycle with carbon dioxide emissions of 157g/km with the Sportwagon achieving 46.3mpg and 161g/km.

The 2.4 JTD Multijet scores 42.8mpg and 175g/km for the saloon and 42.2mpg and 178g/km for the Sportwagon.
