IS this the future vision of green motoring? The JetCar made its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this month, promising a top speed of 100mph and fuel economy of up to 113mpg from its three-cylinder 799cc engine.

The windscreen of the two-seater is designed to resemble the front of an aircraft to cut wind resistance. Production starts next year, with 100 cars set to be built in the first run.

Christian Wenger Rosenau, JetCar chief executive, said: 'Since 1997, we have not only been working with wind energy but also in the field of energy efficient vehicles. We have hired five staff to further develop the car.'
