PEUGEOT has fitted a six-speed gearbox to its 2.2-litre HDi 607 in a bid to improve acceleration, reduce interior noise levels and improve fuel economy.

The car is now marginally faster from a standing start, with fuel economy up from 42.2mpg to 42.7mpg. CO2 emissions are down a point to 177g/km. Peugeot claims the extra gear should improve economy at cruising speeds.

Alongside the extra cog, Peugeot has increased specification across the entire range with side airbags for the rear seats, a Bluetooth hands-free phone kit, a motorised opening and closing boot, and new trim options.
