MOTORING organisation the RAC is using mobile phone data to help locate fleet customers in the event of a breakdown.

The company says that when breakdowns happen on a motorway the SOS phones and motorway marker posts allow the RAC to pinpoint exactly where the member is.

However, away from the motorways, establishing the exact location of the member from the information they are able to provide can sometimes be difficult.

It has now developed a database of more than four million landmarks including pubs, restaurants, shops and hotels, underpinned by a comprehensive street map of the UK.
