BOURNEMOUTH Borough Council has boosted its alternatively-fuelled vehicle fleet with 18 LPG-powered Vauxhall vans.

The council, which runs a fleet of about 330 vehicles, is contract hiring 16 1.6i Dualfuel Astravans and two 1.6i Combo vans from contract hire and leasing supplier Translinc.

They will be used for a variety of council duties, including parking enforcement, street cleaning and courier services. The authority bunkers its own fuel.

Principal engineer Richard Grant said: 'Bournemouth Council works very hard to pursue an alternative fuel policy and while previously we used compressed natural gas and electric vehicles, LPG power is now the preferred fuel of choice.'
