JAGUAR has announced record January sales up more than a quarter on last year's figures.

The manufacturer sold 2,469 vehicles, 33% of which went to fleets, boosting sales by 23.8% compared to the same period last year.

Phil Popham, UK marketing director at Jaguar, said: 'In an increasingly competitive market environment, important new models such as the company's first ever diesel and the forthcoming estate are major factors in attracting new customers, fuelling sales records both at home and globally.'

The X-type accounted for a large number of sales, with Jaguar selling 1,531 in January, 44% to fleets. More than 1,000 of these were 2.0-litre diesel models.
