THE UK's second largest ambulance service is running a new fleet of Volkswagen ambulances.

The East Midlands Ambulance Services (EMAS) has taken delivery of 10 specially converted ambulances to transfer patients and assist on emergency calls.

Andrew Potter, fleet services manager at EMAS, said: 'After a period of evaluation the Volkswagen LT was identified as providing the size of body and carrying capacity required for this conversion exercise.

The LT is competitively priced with a proven design that gives good reliability and Volkswagen was able to deliver in a tight timescale.'

The fleet consists of Volkswagen LT35 and LT46 models, chosen for their size and suitability for conversion into blue light vehicles.
