Camera boost

THE number of motorists prosecuted for offences that were detected by a camera has increased by 40% from 1.1 million in 2001 to 1.5 million in 2002, the RAC Foundation says.

It is calling for revenue from speed cameras to be spent on boosting the number of traffic police to target dangerous drivers and on improving dangerous junctions and other stretches of road.
