OUR experts on the auction floor give you the lowdown on what's selling and what's sitting.

What's hot

SUVs

Used buyers can't get enough of them and not just the premium models. BMW X5 and Volvo XC90 are all fetching good prices, but so are Nissan X-trail and Toyota Rav 4

Van-derived cars

About as exotic as Domestos but used buyers want good, solid utility vehicles. Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Renault Kangoo have been performing well

Hyundai Coupe

The budget coupe is finding favour in the secondhand market and values are holding up well across the entire range, with 02 model in 2.0 SE guise the auction floor star

What's not

Peugeot 406

It doesn't take a genius to realise that with the launch of the 407, secondhand values for the trusty 406 are being hit. There's likely to be no let-up in its dropping values for the next few months

Skoda Superb

Buyers just don't know what to make of this car. Some love it, some don't, and values can be pretty erratic as a result. The 2.0 Classic and 1.9 TDi PD 100 Classic are the hardest hit

Diesel Citroen C5

For the largely-forgotten C5, things just aren't getting any better. Although values of petrol models are holding, the diesel versions have seen big drops of about 3% in the last month
