IT was a case of plain sailing for auction specialist Manheim Europe which claimed first and second places in this year's CAP Regatta.

Event organisers say the race was so successful that next year's will be spread over two days instead of one.

A total of 18 amateur crews, under the guidance of professional skippers, battled it out on the waters of Port Solent.

The regatta raised more than £1,500 for motor trade charity, BEN. CAP managing director Ian Bissell said: 'The spirit all our partners bring to the Regatta is inspiring and I am delighted to congratulate Manheim on its racing success.'

The winning team comprised Alex Wright (Manheim), Annessa Lehane (Royal Mail), Rod Thomason (City Motor Holdings), Hugh Stephens (Bank of Scotland), Phil Bastow (Interleasing), Colin Moore (BT) and Tim Hudson (LeasePlan).
