BMW has confirmed that it will launch a six-cylinder version of the 6-series, using a new 258bhp 3.0-litre Valvetronic engine.

Available both in the coupe and convertible versions from launch, the engine offers a 12% power increase from the 3.0-litre engine available in other cars in the BMW range and maximum torque of 221lb-ft is available from 2,500rpm to 4,000rpm.

The manual version of the 630Ci records a 0-62mph time of 6.5 seconds, with fuel consumption of 31.4mpg. Prices will be announced closer to the launch in September.
