THE European Commission’s latest president, Jose Manuel Barroso, has unveiled the list of new EU commissioners – with Frenchman Jacques Barrot in charge of transport infra-structure. Transport is currently headed by Loyola de Palacio.

The new commission, effective from November, includes: Industry – Gunter Verheugen (Germany); Competition – Neelie Kroes (Netherlands); Internal Market – Charlie McCreevy (Ireland); Trade – Peter Mandelson (UK); Enlargement – Olli Rehn (Finland); Regional Policy – Danuta Hubner (Poland); Energy Laszlo Kovacs (Hungary); Environment – Stavros Dimas (Greece); Health and Consumer – Markos Kyprianou (Cyprus); Taxation and Customs – Ingrida Udre (Latvia).
