    Ford Focus ST

THE ST is the hottest version of the new shape Focus, packing a Volvo-sourced 2.5-litre turbocharged engine under its bonnet. With 223bhp, Ford claims the ST will accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds and will reach 150mph. The even better news is the model’s pricing, with the base ST starting at £17,495. Two other versions are available – the ST2 at £18,495 and the ST3 at £19,495

    VW Passat estate

FOLLOWING on from the successful launch of the Passat saloon comes the new estate version, on sale in November. A range of FSI petrol and TDI diesel engines mirror those available in the saloon, as do the S, SE, Sport and SEL trim levels. Load space is 1,731 litres with the rear seats folded flat – 100 litres less than a Vauxhall Vectra but 53 litres bigger than a Ford Mondeo. Prices will start from £16,000.
