VOLKSWAGEN’S top executives were out in force for the launch of the new Passat, which starred in a party staged in Germany prior to the official launch of the car at the Geneva Motor Show next week.

Hosted by television presenter Susann Atwell and featuring a live performance from singer Seal, the next version of one of Europe’s leading business saloons won a standing ovation when it finally broke cover in Hamburg.

VW management board members mingled with 500 international media guests at the event, held in the port’s main cruise liner terminal building.

VW chairman and chief executive Bernd Pischetsrieder told Fleet NewsNet: ‘We learned a lot when we designed our Phaeton luxury model and we have taken great care to apply some of the lessons to this car. I hope customers will appreciate the extra quality it offers.’
