A BROAD range of risk issues will be analysed and good practice shared at this month’s Fleet News Spring Conference.

Titled: ‘Double Jeopardy Corporate Risk, Financial Risk’ it will allow UK fleet executives to stay on top of the challenges ahead.

It takes place at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham on Thursday, May 26 and fleet executives are urged to book their tickets for a place quickly. Topics and speakers at the event, which is sponsored by Nissan and Lloyds TSB autolease, are:

  • The Company and Health and Safety: Roger Williams, a retired corporate lawyer who continues to present papers at national and regional conferences and works three to four days a work for the Ministry of Defence, on health and safety at work issues and their relevance to the armed services.

  • The Future of Corporate Killing Laws: David Faithful, partner at Clark Willmott Solicitors and a regular contributor to Fleet News. He is author of the legal section of the Croner publication Managing Occupational Road Risk and is regarded as the legal authority on vehicle health and safety and telematics issues.

  • Budget and Election Implications for Fleets: Stewart Whyte, managing director of Fleet Audits and director and membership secretary of the Association of Car Fleet Operators (ACFO). Whyte provides strategic policy guidance to fleets and provides training courses. He also deals with Government departments on matters affecting fleets, including taxation and legislation.

  • Tax Challenges: Alison Chapman, tax partner, Automotive Sector, Deloitte. A corporation tax partner who advises manufacturers, dealers and finance companies and is responsible for booklets explaining the various aspects of fleet finance and company car taxation, Chapman is also author of Tolley’s Tax and the Business Car.

  • Running a Safe Fleet: Graham Hine, facilities manager, Adult Learning Inspectorate. Hine won the Fleet News Fleet Manager of the Year (101-400 vehicles) Award in 2003 and was recently elected as chairman of the Midlands region of ACFO. He is proactive in sharing good practice and raising professional standards in fleet management.

  • Guidance on Safe Driving for Fleets: Charles Davis, head of driver and fleet solutions, Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). Davis is responsible for the development commercially of RoSPA’s key issue – The Management of Occupational Road Risk (MORR) with companies and organisations.

  • Safer Vehicles – Euro NCAP Explained: Matthew Avery, crash research manager, Thatcham. Avery is responsible for the Car Safety and Personal Injury Research at Thatcham. He undertook the whiplash research work and consumer crash test programme and is a specialist adviser at UK and European government levels.

  • Creating a Safer Fleet: Jeremy Hay, chief executive officer, Essential Risk Consultancy. Hay has extensive fleet and risk knowledge gained from more than 20 years in the fleet industry. Essential Risk Consultancy won the Best Risk Management Company Award at the Fleet News Awards 2005.
