Rental firm predicts end of the road for pool vans as rules tighten

DUTY-of-care regulations could spell the end for pool vans, according to one rental group. Increasing pressure to comply with health and safety means fleets using older vans as pool vehicles may no longer be appropriate, claims TLS Vehicle Rental.

Sean Welham, marketing director at TLS, said: ‘Many LCV operators have habitually kept a few older vans on their fleet for occasional use but, as greater attention is paid to risk management policies, thanks to recent Government pressure, they are no longer suitable.

‘A few years ago, the fleet operator would probably have risked putting a pool van into service but the latest duty-of-care guidelines mean that would be a definite risk.’
