HOT on the heels of launching the new Passat in the UK, Volkswagen has revealed the first picture of its stylish estate sibling.

Due to go on sale here in November, the estate shares the saloon’s front-end styling, but from the centre door pillars back it is all-new.

With a maximum load volume of 1,731 litres, the new model has 131 litres more carrying space then the current car, thanks to being 1.9cm taller, 9.2cm longer and 7.4cm wider.

Six engines will be available at launch; the familiar 1.6 and 2.0 FSI petrols and the 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI diesels. New to the range will be a turbocharged 2.0-litre FSI with 198bhp and a 3.2-litre V6 with 247bhp.

A 168bhp 2.0 TDI will follow in 2006.

Options on the estate include the DSG gearbox and hydro-pneumatic self-levelling rear suspension.
