THE Government is reported to be blocking the installation of new speed cameras on Britain’s roads for several months.

Transport officials want to see the results of a report on existing sites where cameras are used before it gives camera safety partnerships the go-ahead to install more.

The Department for Transport (DfT) is reviewing the rules on the deployment of cameras after concerns that partnerships have failed to consider alternatives, such as improving junctions or displaying warning signs.

Officials have said they are not blocking new cameras but waiting for the University College London independent review to be published before approving any new sites.
