In fact small vans up to 1.8 tonnes show a drop of 2.7%, while medium vans between 1.8 tonnes and 2.6 tonnes are up 7.1%, and heavy vans (2.8 tonnes to 3.5 tonnes) are up 9%.

Among the losers are LDV, down 5.27% despite the launch of the new Maxus in January, Mercedes-Benz, which saw sales fall by 10.57%, and Ford – down by 5.83%. Meanwhile the big winner was Volkswagen, up a massive 23.36%, while Vauxhall rose 16.61%, Iveco was up 17.64% and Fiat rose 4.58%.

Commenting on the figures, Chris Macgowan, chief executive of the Society and Motor Manufacturers and Traders, said: ‘2005 growth continues and medium and light vans bucked the downward trend in June. Despite mixed fortunes for some segments, the main message is that CV registrations are on course to hit or beat last year’s levels.’
