Renault Megane

RENAULT’S Megane range gets a slight facelift for 2006, with a new front grille to echo the look of its Laguna big brother and a tweaked rear end. Under the bonnet the diesel range has been expanded with the addition of a 150bhp 1.9-litre dCi unit and the 130bhp version now comes with a particulate filter. There are also 1.5-litre dCi’s with 85bhp and 105bhp. Prices will be announced later this month.

Volkswagen Jetta

THE Jetta name makes a comeback in the UK on the back of this booted Golf. Replacing the Bora, the Jetta range mirrors that of the Golf on which it is based, meaning a choice of FSI petrol or TDI turbodiesel engines. There’s also a turbocharged FSI, borrowed from the Golf GTI, offering 197bhp. Buyers have the choice of a six-speed manual or the DSG clutchless manual gearbox. Prices start at £14,635.
