LONG driver hours and tiredness top a new survey into fleet safety concerns undertaken to mark the launch of a new fleet safety website – www.corporateliability.co.uk.

Some 44% of those surveyed from fleet software firm cfc’s database of more than 3,000 customers listed driver hours as their main concern. Other major problems were seen as excessive speed by drivers (33%), mobile phone use while driving (24%) and vehicle maintenance (21%).

Further issues highlighted included driver ability (17%), vehicle roadworthiness and driver aggression (8%). The new website is designed to provide a central resource for all van fleet duty of care and safety issues. Although it is operated by cfc, it is designed to function on an unbiased basis.

cfc sales and marketing director, Andy Leech, said: ‘Fleet safety is the key topic of the moment in our industry. It is something that fleet managers talk to us about continually but we have been unable to guide them towards a single, independent information source.

‘That is why we have started the website.’
