Mornings spent scraping off ice from your windscreen may be a thing of the past with the development of a new technology from the US which heats screen fluid to melt ice.

The system, called ‘HotShot’, works by passing the screen wash through a heating chamber which works even without the engine running.

The device, manufactured by Microheat, will be offered on Cadillac and Buick models in the US. The company is also in talks with other carmakers around the world, which could see the system offered on UK cars in the near future.
