GARETH Armstrong
Fleet manager
Northern Constabulary

What is your fleet history?
I started as a vehicle technician before moving onto Cowie Interleasing and then to van rental group TLS. I moved to the Northern Constabulary in May 2000 and I currently manage 225 vehicles.

What’s the worst thing a driver has done?
Considerable damage was caused to a vehicle by two amorous Shetland ponies, but we can’t really blame the driver – other than the parking position.

What is your biggest bugbear as a fleet manager?
The increasing amount of Government legislation plus a lack of action and clear policy around environmental concerns specifically directed at fleet transport.

What could make your life easier at work?
Less bureaucracy.

What’s your favourite record?
Led Zeppelin – Whole Lotta Love.

What’s been your best career move?
Moving to Northern Constabulary as it has enabled me to progress a number of issues with support from my colleagues.
