FN industry conference: Innovation

‘Blasts of Innovation’ offered inspiring ideas.

  • SIMON Harris, managing director of Fleetconsult, pitched two systems that automatically log business and private mileage from company car and van drivers.
Accredis is an electronic device installed in each vehicle.
Drivers press a private, business or commute button at the start of each journey.
Tripometer relies on drivers recording their information by mobile phone to an automated system. Delegates were impressed by Accredis, but less so by Tripometer, citing concerns about staff using mobile phones while driving.

  • THE latest mobile phone technology could provide a bridge to a new world of drivers’ services that reduce administration and improve safety.
Andy Leech, sales and marketing director at cfc solutions, suggested that leasing companies could provide 3G phones as standard with company vehicles to enable a number of services.
Delivery drivers could use the high-tech phones to show short handover videos, he suggested.
The phones could also be used as a live video link to the leasing company in the event of an accident, or provide direct web-access for drivers to submit reports and mileage claims.
