COMPANY car drivers have named German brands as their business transport of choice in an exclusive survey.

When asked which car they would most like to drive for work next, nine of the top 10 models are German and the 10th was Japanese.

The nation’s company car drivers are ‘Beemer Dreamers’, according to the survey, with the BMW 3-series saloon topping their company car wish list.

Second comes the Volkswagen Passat and third the Audi A4 Avant.

The Audi A4 saloon and Volkswagen Golf hatchback complete the top five. Sixth is the A3 Sportback, seventh is the Volkswagen Passat estate, eighth is the BMW 5-series saloon and ninth is the iconic Volkswagen GTi.

If it wasn’t for the Honda Civic being voted 10th, the entire top 10 would have been ruled by Audi, BMW and Volkswagen.

When asked which manufacturer brand they would favour for their next company car the picture is much the same. Audi comes first, followed by BMW and Volkswagen, which pushed Ford and Vauxhall down to fourth and fifth place.

The survey was carried out by a new website www.companycardriver.co.uk run by Emap Automotive, publisher of Fleet News. Editor Jeremy Bennett said: ‘In every office around the country you will hear conversations with company car drivers arguing over what is the best company car and it’s plain to see three manufacturers rule the rostrum, no doubt based on their performance, build quality and some badge kudos. And while Audi, BMW and Volkswagen can feel pretty smug now, Honda should give itself a pat on the back for breaking the Teutonic monopoly.’
