LINDA O’Hara, fleet manager Musgrave.

Describe your fleet

I started in fleet management in 1993 at Budgens’ Fleet. Until then, I had been a personnel secretary. The combined fleet currently is 239 cars, which is a mixture of owned, contract hire and mini lease vehicles. We also have 36 home delivery vans.

Are there any perks to being a fleet manager?

Test driving different cars and evaluating them for the fleet.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

Running out of fuel on the M1 about 10 years ago and having to explain to our health and safety controller why I was late for a meeting. I had travelled down from Derby the day before and was reluctant to pay motorway prices for fuel so put enough in to get home, then forgot to fill up at the local garage.

What is your greatest personal achievement?

Being married for 35 years and having three healthy sons, but the biggest personal achievement on the fleet side would be writing a new fleet policy with the help of RoSPA and the company winning a silver award for managing occupational road risk.
